And they all were aghast

So here's the thing. I'm 38 and I've never seen Lion King. At least I am fairly positive I haven't. Worst of all is that I used to work with Disney. I'm pretty sure even that at one point I got a copy for free. No idea where that copy went, but I know that the DVD I had never made it to showtime.

It comes up from time to time whilst around people, especially at work.

"Hey remember that one part when the Lion King uh...." See I can't even fake what the Lion King does. I know his name is Tumba or Pimbo or Samba. Something like that. Just kidding...I know his name is Charles.

And there are always gasps when newcomers find out my deficiency. They cannot believe how I have missed this essential part of childhood. But here is the thing. I was 15 years old when it was released. And I was not comfortable enough at the time with my now very clear and apparent nerdiness to suggest to my other 15 year old friends that it would be a good idea to go see a cartoon. Life was different in the 90's.

Anyhow at work the other day the brilliant wonderful 20-somethings in my office started naming Disney films and it became very clear how many I was missing.

So we came up with a plan. They made a list of movies I must see (If you don't agree with the list thats fine. This was their personal list. Also it's not like I've never seen a Disney movie. I've seen a lot. But there is a 1990s shaped hole for the most part).

1) Lion King

2) Beauty and the Beast

3) Jungle Book

4) The Brave Little Toaster

5) Emperors New Groove

6) Aladdin

7) Rescuers Down Under

8) Hunchback of Notre Dame

9) Hercules

10) Treasure Planet

11) Mulan

12) James and the Giant Peach

13) The Little Mermaid

14) Lilo and Stitch

15) The Great Mouse Detective

16) Goofy Movie

17) Atlantis

18) Lion King 1 1/2

19) Black Cauldron

20) Brother Bear

21) Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars

22) Cinderella 3

And I will agree to watch these movies in some sort of timely fashion and I will come here and write a review of the film from the view of a 38 year old man. I am going to try my best to walk into the movies forgetting everything I know about them. Hopefully I can experience them organically.

Wish me luck.

Jon
